Tune in to the series that listeners around the world are calling, "Beautiful," "Fun," and "Phenomenal."
Where can you see a historic mansion, an aging public housing complex, and a brand-new luxury apartment building on the same street? And an abuela selling elotes down the block from a Michelin-starred restaurant? And a world-class opera singer sharing world-class falafels with a world-class drag queen? Bushwick: Brooklyn's most dynamic neighborhood.
Bushwick has an incredible history that dates back to the very beginning of Brooklyn, and has seen the neighborhood transform many times over. Today, it's grown into one of the most vibrant and diverse communities in the world. But for many in Bushwick, this growth comes on the back of transformative contradictions.
The graffiti that sent Bushwick artists to jail less than 40 years ago is now the street art that draws visitors from around the world. Lots that developers once couldn’t give away are now some of the city’s most expensive real estate. And billion dollar startups grow out of the shadows of old factories.
As thousands of new residents and dozens of new businesses move into the neighborhood, Bushwick has never had a more uncertain future.
Bushwick Podcast is a new take on grassroots media and civic engagement. We partner with organizations throughout the neighborhood to celebrate Bushwick's culture and break down the most important issues facing the community today. From arts, to history, to food, to politics, we share stories that we hope will inform and inspire you.
Our goal is make it as accessible, and fun, as possible for anyone to become an active member of their local community. For our listeners in Bushwick, we'll introduce you to the people, organizations, and forces working to reshape your neighborhood each day. For our listeners around the world, we design these stories of how artists, activists, and entrepreneurs collide to highlight the surprising ways that anyone can become a positive force in their community.
Bushwick Podcast is produced by Luke Griffin in partnership with Heritage Radio Network, the Bushwick-based, member-supported non-profit that's been the world's leading voice for amazing audio on food and culture for a decade.
